Lions host the Golden Lions of UAPB in the Simmons Bank Field Season Opener

PINE BLUFF, Ark. -- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) football team will open the 2023 season on Saturday, September 2, when they host the Golden Lions of Arkansas-Pine Bluff (UAPB) at Simmons Bank Field.

The Golden Lions are coming off a 2-9 season in 2022, but they return a number of key players from that team, including quarterback Skyler Perry and running back Kayode Awosika. Perry threw for 1,816 yards and 14 touchdowns last season, while Awosika rushed for 864 yards and 10 touchdowns.

UAPB will also be looking to improve its defense in 2023. The Golden Lions allowed 37.3 points per game last season, which was 12th in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).

The Golden Lions will be a tough test for the Lions in their season opener. UAPB has won the last two meetings between the two teams, including a 24-17 victory in Pine Bluff last season.
