California Celebrates Clean Air Day
State Recognizes October 4th as Day of Awareness
Caltrans Displays Clean Air Day Message
California is celebrating Clean Air Day on October 4th, 2023. The state is recognizing the day to encourage awareness and action towards improving air quality. Caltrans, the state's transportation department, is displaying Clean Air Day messages on its electronic signs to promote the event.
Clean Air Day is also recognized internationally on September 7th. The day was launched by the UN General Assembly in 2019 to raise awareness about the importance of clean air.
Air pollution is a serious health concern. Ninety-nine percent of humanity breathes air laced with soot, sulfur, and other toxic chemicals. These pollutants can cause respiratory problems, heart disease, and even cancer.
One way to improve air quality is to reduce our reliance on cars. On Clean Air Day, people are encouraged to give their cars a day off and use public transportation, walk, or bike instead.
